The new 9,000-square-foot artifact storage facility at Peterborough Museum and Archives, shown in this 2015 video, is a wonderland.
The only other time I’ve had the privilege of being let loose to wander (but don’t touch!) in an archival storage area of similar dimensions was at the Museum of London’s archive on Eagle Wharf Road, doing research for my dissertation, and I still haven’t recovered. The Peterborough Museum’s endless shelves of collection after collection had the same effect on me. What a joy.
And the Museum itself is great too!
Peterborough Museum and Archives is museum no. 56 in my #100museums challenge (see 100 Museums Challenge).
