In the spirit of the New Year, I’m setting myself a challenge. I’m going to attempt to visit 100 museums in 2019.
After each visit, I’ll post one photo (at least), referring to one object or experience from my visit, with (probably short) commentary.
“Museum” will be very loosely defined, as a place (gallery, exhibit, garden, zoo, archaeological site, etc.) at which I mused (…), not including online museums.
Why am I doing this? For many of the same reasons I’ve been seeking out municipal, provincial, and federal historic plaques (see A Milestone for my “Historic Plaques of Ontario” Collection). Specifically:
- to explore and appreciate new places, and revisit familiar ones
- for the joy of research in preparation and follow-up
- as an excuse to have adventures with friends
- to encourage myself to blog more often
- for physical exercise – I love walking around, looking at stuff
- to satisfy the spreadsheet-maker and list-writer in me
- to see if I can!
A preliminary list of Toronto-area possibilities is below. At a first go I could find only 57 “museums” to list, so getting to 100 will encourage me to be creative, with day trips and any other travel I’ll be lucky enough to do this year. Also, I do realize there will be a cost involved, so I will try not to bankrupt myself in the attempt.
