Well, I’m proud of something. For the first time, I’ve tried the Coursera platform, and have just completed the online lectures and activities for the Bookkeeping Basics course.
Loved it.
I’m really excited too for the followups — really — to earn the Intuit Academy Bookkeeping Professional Certificate: Assets in Accounting, Liabilities and Equity in Accounting, and Financial Statement Analysis. I’ve studied these things before, A While Ago, so it’s very reassuring to refresh my knowledge and be confident that I actually know what I’m doing in a new role at work.
What is Coursera? Their website says, “Coursera is the global online learning platform that offers anyone, anywhere access to online courses and degrees from world-class universities and companies.” My classes are through Intuit, maker of QuickBooks accounting software, which is what I use at work.
What else have they got on offer? A mind-boggling lot: something like 7,000+ classes. Some are free, some (like Bookkeeping Basics) require a subscription. A friend has enjoyed Dino 101: Dinosaur Paleobiology through the University of Alberta. I’ve heard great things about Indigenous Canada, also coincidentally through the University of Alberta. There’s science, business, arts and humanities, languages, coding, project management, etc. A GIS, Mapping, and Spatial Analysis Specialization from the University of Toronto! Even Magic in the Middle Ages from the Universitat de Barcelona, hmm…
Of further interest to me for work would be website development courses, such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript for Web Developers through Johns Hopkins University and Web Design for Everybody: Basics of Web Development & Coding Specialization from the University of Michigan.
Exciting stuff! The best new thing tried in 2024 so far, for sure.
